Amazon has turned the former Dutch prison de Kopel into an office complex

Amazon Web Services has a new office complex. It is located on the grounds of the former de Kopel prison in Harlem, the Netherlands.

The penitentiary system in the Netherlands has existed for over 100 years. The prison was opened in 1901. In 2016, after its closure, the domed building was used for some time as a shelter for migrants arriving from Syria.

The cells for prisoners on the third floor of the de Kopel prison were converted into office space. One of the company’s employees posted a video from the new complex on the social network X (formerly Twitter).

You can see the logos of Amazon Web Services in the footage. Former prison cells are reportedly equipped with office furniture and can now be used as meeting rooms.

Some users made a joke about the fact that Amazon Web Services’ office is located in a prison. This is due to a large number of reports that the company’s warehouse employees have a heavy workload and low pay.
