Local residents complained about loud explosions and smoke in the sky that appeared after the incident. Authorities in the Russian capital assure that air defense successfully destroyed the enemy air target.
It was another restless morning in Moscow. An unidentified drone was spotted in the Voskresensky district, located more than 100 kilometers from the capital, and air defense systems were operating on it. This was announced by Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.
“Today, air defense forces in the Voskresensky district of Moscow region destroyed a drone flying towards Moscow. There were no casualties or damage. Emergency services are working at the scene,” he wrote.
Local residents reported hearing loud explosions, followed by smoke in the sky.
According to the Russian media outlet Mash, following the drone attack, the capital’s airports are temporarily not accepting or sending ships. 32 planes were detained, and four more were canceled.
“59 flights have already been delayed,” the statement said.
As a reminder, it has become more difficult for Russian small aircraft pilots to fly around Moscow due to drone attacks, as GPS signals are now being jammed in the region. An airplane flying at an altitude of about 500 meters loses navigation. Therefore, the pilot does not know where he is supposed to fly.
On August 28, Moscow authorities complained about a new UAV attack. The mayor of the Russian capital said that the drone was destroyed on its approach to Moscow and crashed in the neighboring town of Lyubertsy. The Russian Defense Ministry traditionally accused Ukraine of a “terrorist attack.”
