Apple overtakes Samsung as the world’s largest phone manufacturer

The American company Apple takes the lion’s share of the global smartphone market, pushing South Korea’s Samsung out of first place for the first time in 12 years
This was reported by the BBC.

According to the International Data Corporation (IDC), Apple accounted for more than a fifth of the phones shipped last year. Samsung, on the other hand, has a 19.4% market share, followed by Chinese phone makers Xiaomi, OPPO, and Transsion.

Smartphone sales are down as many people have upgraded during the pandemic. IDC reports that nearly 1.2 billion smartphones were sold last year, down 3% from the previous year.

“This is the lowest number of goods sold in the last decade, and many consumers are tightening their purse strings in the face of economic problems and high interest rates. Experts predict a market recovery this year,” the report said.

The market value of Microsoft’s shares reached $2.887 trillion, the highest ever. In contrast, Apple’s capitalization is $2.875 trillion.
