Armenian regulator suspends Russian propaganda agency Sputnik for a month

On Thursday, December 20, the Armenian Television and Radio Commission has decided to suspend the activities of Tospa, the company responsible for broadcasting the pro-Russian Sputnik Armenia program, for 30 days.

This decision was made as a result of the program “Friday with Tigran Keosayan”, aired on November 17, 2023, where the Republic of Armenia and its citizens were mentioned in mocking and humiliating contexts.

In addition, during this program, calls for actions prohibited by Armenian legislation were voiced, which became the basis for the initiation of an administrative case against the broadcaster.

It is also reported that in the program “Abovyan Time”, broadcast by “Tospa”, false statements were made that could cause panic among Armenian citizens. The decision reflects the Armenian regulator’s commitment to ensuring compliance with the country’s legal norms and broadcasting standards.

As a reminder, Sputnik is a Russian propaganda news agency that owns websites and mobile applications. It conducts online broadcasts, radio broadcasts and has press centers. It was founded by the international news agency Rossiya Segodnya. The agency is headquartered in Moscow. One of the main foreign channels for spreading Kremlin propaganda to the world.
