Art from the wreckage of war: a unique exhibition by the War Artists Union project in the City Zen Park business center

October 20, 2023 at 18:00 The Union of War Artists of Ukraine invites you to the solemn presentation of the first exhibition of artworks created from the wreckage of weapons and equipment to rethink the narrative of war and demonstrate art as a force for revival.

The opening of the exhibition will take place in the spacious foyer of the City Zen Park business center, which will become a permanent exhibition space for the newly created War Artists Union project, a union of artists from all over Ukraine who specialize in creating exclusive art objects for interior design from fragments of military equipment and weapons. The project aims to remind us that art can change the world by turning instruments of murder into symbols of rebirth.

The collection of works of art to be presented to the public includes more than 20 art objects. Among them is a collection of brass shell jewelry collected by volunteers near Izyum from the famous jeweler and sculptor Volodymyr Balyberdin, whose works are kept in the Museum of Historical Treasures at the National Historical Museum of Ukraine. The exhibition will also feature a table made from the wreckage of an Alligator helicopter shot down by our military near Izyum. Other works include a sculpture of the Madonna made from the wreckage of an X-31 missile that crashed in Kyiv in May 2022 and many other interesting exhibits.

During the presentation, you will be able to talk to the authors of the art objects who will come to the event from different cities of Ukraine. A charity auction will conclude the event, where several interesting trophies will be raffled off. The proceeds from the auction will be donated to the charity foundation VatagaUA, which helps the military in combat zones.

“Ukraine will never be the same as before, but even from the mangled wreckage, Ukrainians are capable of creating beauty,” says Svitlana Bilyk, founder of the War Artists Union project, “The time will come and we will win, the time will come and Ukraine will transform and become even better than it was. And it is art that should reflect this transformation, show the world a new Ukraine and form a new image of the country.”

We invite everyone to the presentation and opening of the permanent exhibition space of the War Artists Union project.
