Artificial intelligence can determine whether your new Louis Vuitton bag is original with 99% accuracy

The Entrupy tool offers a “verification” service for branded items.

Entrupy was founded a decade ago and claims that its AI technology has been used by “hundreds of vintage branded goods merchants” as of December 2020 (the tool is still available only to these sales representatives).

Entrupy determines the authenticity of only luxury goods from brands such as Balenciaga, Burberry, Gucci, and Louis Vuitton. The accuracy of the result, according to the company, reaches 99.1%.

“The idea is to add trust to buyers and offer third-party verification,” says Vidyut Srinivasan, co-founder and CEO of Entrupy.

Interest in Entrupy grew last October, when TikTok partnered with the company to authenticate products on its e-commerce platform TikTok Shop.

So how do you use the tool? The service offers to upload product photos from all possible viewing angles after pairing with the Entrupy hardware device, which has a microscopic lens that the company claims can magnify the phone’s camera to take more detailed photos of elements such as the product logo and material.

The photos are then automatically compared to a database of millions of images of the authentic product using artificial intelligence algorithms, and within minutes, Entrupy renders its verdict. The company also offers an official certificate, which retailers can use to confirm the “originality” of the product.

Other hardware AI devices this year included the second version of Ray-Ban smart glasses from Meta and a “screenless smartphone” from Humane.
