Artificial intelligence took away jobs from almost 4000 Americans in a month

In May 2023, more than 400,000 people lost their jobs in the U.S. Some of them were replaced by artificial intelligence.

According to Bloomberg journalists who reviewed the report by Challenger, Gray & Christmas, 417,500 people were laid off in the United States last month. It is noteworthy that for the first time, the labor market report lists AI as a reason for dismissal.

The introduction of artificial intelligence resulted in 3,900 people losing their jobs, or about 6.5% of the total number of people laid off. The situation is expected to get worse.

Analysts at Newedge Wealth and Goldman Sachs predict that in a dozen years, the number of people laid off due to AI will increase by several orders of magnitude, up to 300 million by 2035. At the same time, the market capacity of services related to generative AI models will increase to $1.3 trillion.
