Based on 10-year-old data: Musk said that the East of Ukraine ‘prefers Russia’
Businessman Elon Musk continues to make scandalous statements about Ukraine and now noted that some eastern regions of the country have a Russian majority, and added a map of electoral preferences for 2012. Corresponding statements appeared on Elon Musk’s Twitter.
The founder of SpaceX and Tesla companies, Elon Musk, entered into a dispute regarding Ukraine with US Senator Lindsay Graham. The American senator emphasized that a businessman should understand the facts of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
To this, Musk replied that it is necessary to “support the will of those who live in any conflict region.”
“If you believe that the will of the people is important, then in any conflict region we should support the will of those who live there. The majority of Ukraine definitely wants to be part of Ukraine, but some eastern regions of the country have a Russian majority and they prefer Russia.” Musk said.
To confirm his beliefs, the businessman published a map of electoral preferences for 2012, which shows that at that time the majority of residents of the southern and eastern regions voted for the “Party of Regions”.
“Obviously, not everyone who voted for the pro-Russian party wanted to join Russia, but it would be incorrect to say that no one did,” he added.

On the evening of October 3, a series of provocative tweets appeared in Musk’s verified account. In particular, Elon Musk suggested how to achieve peace in Ukraine, and offered to support his proposal or not. Among the items published in Musk’s survey are “hold another referendum on the Ukrainian territories temporarily occupied by the Russian Federation” and “give Crimea to Russia.” In the comments, Musk was instead offered to demilitarize Russia and advised to study history. The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, also responded to such a survey. He also launched a poll on his account. In it, Zelensky asked users which Elon Musk they like better – the one who supports Ukraine or the one who supports Russia.
In turn, Ukrainians responded to the call of volunteers Serhiy Prytula and Ihor Lachenkov to collect money “for a textbook on the history of Ukraine for Elon Musk” – after he published a series of provocative tweets. The collected funds will be used for the needs of the Armed Forces. In just 30 minutes, Ukrainians donated a million hryvnias. In a little more than an hour, the account was already over UAH 1.7 million. On October 4, Prytula said that in less than a day, Ukrainians had collected more than UAH 2.3 million.
The President of Lithuania Gitanas Nauseda also reacted to this. He said, “just because someone tries to steal Tesla wheels doesn’t make them the owner.”
Subsequently, Musk, under the questioning of President Volodymyr Zelenskyi, said that he was still on the side of Ukraine.
The Kremlin also reacted to such tweets by the businessman. He considers them “very positive”.
Elon Musk later offered Twitter Inc to renew the purchase agreement, although he had previously turned it down.
