Biden’s son faces 25 years in prison: new charges brought against him

Hunter Biden, the son of the American president, was charged with three counts of illegal possession of weapons. If convicted, he could face up to 25 years in prison.

It is noted that the charges against Biden relate to three articles on illegal possession of weapons. Two of them are related to false statements about firearms, and the third is the possession of firearms by a person who uses drugs.

On all three counts, he faces a maximum of 25 years in prison.

However, lawyers note that charges brought against the son of the US president are not often prosecuted. In addition, the clause on possession of weapons while under the influence of drugs is currently being challenged in courts and may eventually be declared unconstitutional.

  • In May 2020, Kyiv’s Pechersk Court ordered the Prosecutor General’s Office to open a case on Biden’s alleged interference with former Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin, who claimed that he demanded his dismissal over a corruption investigation into Burisma Holdings, where Biden’s son worked.
  • In February 2021, Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova emphasized that law enforcement agencies would not resume investigations into cases involving the son of the US President, Hunter Biden.
  • On June 20, 2023, Hunter Biden admitted to two tax violations in exchange for a plea deal on another charge.
