BMW has invented batteries for electric cars that are 50% cheaper than existing ones

New BMW batteries are being prepared for electric vehicles of the Neue Klasse family. The BMW 3 Series electric car will be the first to receive new generation batteries.

BMW announced a new generation of batteries. From 2025, they will be installed on serial electric cars of the German brand. This is reported by the official BMW website.

BMW batteries consist of innovative thickened batteries with a diameter of 46 mm (by the way, the same size is used in the latest Tesla 4680 batteries). Cells are offered in two height options, which allows you to use them in cars of different classes and sizes.

Both the size of the batteries and their composition have changed. The structure has more nickel and silicon and less cobalt. This made it possible to increase the density by 20%. Electric cars with such batteries will have a 30% longer range. In addition, the charging time of the electric car will be reduced by 30%, and the batteries themselves will become 50% cheaper.

BMW batteries will be produced at new large plants in Europe, North America and China. They plan to equip electric sedans and crossovers of the Neue Klasse family. The first to receive such a battery will be the BMW 3 Series of the new generation, which will be offered in an electric version. Its range will be about 700 km.
