Border guards demonstrate firing from 100-mm BS-3 gun dating back to the 1940s (video)
It looks like our defenders have another piece of rare artillery at their disposal
On September 4, the press service of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine published a video showing border guards practicing firing from a 100-mm caliber BS-3 gun, which was manufactured in 1944-1951, and only 3,800 of these artillery systems were produced.
This video can be considered the first official confirmation of the presence of BS-3 cannons in the Ukrainian Defense Forces. According to the passport characteristics, the BS-3 has a declared range of up to 20.8 km, a rate of fire of up to 8-10 rounds per minute, and a combat weight of 3.6 tons.
There is no information yet on where our border guards could have obtained the BS-3 guns. But we can also add that this is by no means the only piece of rare Soviet-style artillery that ended up in the hands of Ukraine’s defenders during the full-scale war against Russia.
For example, in June 2023, one of the TRO brigades showed KS-19 anti-aircraft guns of the late 1940s, probably taken as a trophy in the Kharkiv region. We also talked about how in August of this year, the Ukrainian Armed Forces demonstrated a combat vehicle made of MT-LB and a D-44 cannon on the principle of “drive and fire.”
In turn, for the first time during the full-scale war against Russia, rare 85-mm D-44 cannons were made available to the Armed Forces of Ukraine in June 2022. And just a month later, it became known that the Armed Forces of Ukraine were shooting at the racists with a rare D-48 cannon made in the 1950s.
