Bratislava reacts to Italy’s decision to withdraw SAMP/T air defense system from Slovakia

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico expressed concern over Italy’s decision to withdraw its SAMP/T air defense system from the Malacky-Kucina military base for redeployment to another location.

The SAMP/T system was provided by official Rome last year to replace the American Patriot system, which the previous Slovak government had transferred to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Fico expressed concern about the vulnerability of Slovak power plants and other strategic facilities to air threats. The prime minister also criticized the actions of his predecessor, who decided to transfer the S-300 system to Ukraine.

It is possible that the SAMP/T system will be transferred to Ukraine. There are no official Italian comments on the future of the air defense system.
