Great Britain is ready to confiscate frozen Russian assets and hand them over to restore Ukraine
This is reported by The Guardian.
According to the publication, British Foreign Minister Liz Truss plans to announce plans to confiscate Russian assets and hand them over to Kyiv at a conference discussing the principles of Ukraine’s post-war recovery, which opens today, July 4, in Lugano, Switzerland.
“I support the concept. We’re watching it very closely. The Canadians actually just passed a law that we’re working on with the interior and the finance ministry, but I’m certainly on board with the idea. We just need to work out all the details of this.” , – said Truss.
It is expected that the seized funds can be transferred either to private individuals in the form of compensation for damages, or to the Ukrainian authorities.
Truss added that the British Parliament may need to pass a new law that would allow the transfer of frozen Russian assets to Ukraine. However, this may not be necessary.
