Britain will arm its warships with modern long-range missiles

British naval frigates and destroyers will receive modern long-range anti-ship missiles

This was reported by Reuters with reference to the statement of Defense Minister Ben Wallace.

‘We have a long history of defense cooperation with Norway. This new agreement strengthens our partnership with one of our closest allies, while strengthening our Royal Navy with a new surface-to-surface strike weapon,’ he said.

It is noted that frigates and destroyers of the British Navy will receive modern long-range anti-ship missiles as part of a new agreement with Norway.

Naval Strike Missiles manufactured by Kongsberg Gruppen ASA will be used on eleven British Type 23 frigates and Type 45 destroyers.

The nearly 4-meter-long missiles are capable of hitting enemy ships and land targets more than 100 nautical miles away at subsonic speeds.

The naval strike missiles will replace the Harpoon surface-to-surface weapon, which is due to be phased out in 2023.

On November 23, Wallace announced that Ukraine would receive three Sea King helicopters and artillery shells from Great Britain. Over the past six weeks, Ukrainian crews have been training in Great Britain to fly and maintain aircraft – to provide search and rescue capabilities.
