Bulgaria fulfilled its promise and handed over 100 armored personnel carriers to Ukraine

In the summer of 2023, Bulgaria announced that it was going to send Ukraine a large batch of old armored personnel carriers. Now there is information that they are already in Ukraine.

This was stated by the Minister of Defense of Bulgaria Todor Tagarev. We are talking about 100 APCS-60. Initially, Bulgaria collected equipment across the country and brought it to the capital. The first batch was shipped on March 7, and the second one after that. All the promised APCs are now in Ukraine.

According to the minister, the transfer of equipment cost Bulgaria 87,000 euros. For this purpose, the Ministry of Defense of the country engaged 247 military personnel and civilians from the Logistics Support Command, the Army and the Military Police Service of Bulgaria. By the way, in return, Bulgaria is to receive M1117 armored personnel carriers from the United States.

The BTR-60 is a Soviet armored personnel carrier with an 8×8 wheel configuration. It was developed in 1956-1959. It is a floating armored vehicle designed to transport infantry. The BTR-60 is equipped with a water cannon engine. This allows it to move through the water. The BTR-60 was widely used in the armed forces of the Warsaw Pact countries, as well as in many other countries. Despite its obsolescence, it remained in operation until the beginning of the 21st century.
