The facility, built in Szeged, in southern Hungary, is expected to create thousands of jobs for local residents.
Since April 2016, Tesla’s largest Chinese competitor has already had a base in Komarom in northwestern Hungary, which assembles electric buses and became BYD’s first plant in Europe.
According to Reuters, the company currently has more than 30 industrial parks and production bases around the world, as well as factories in the United States, Brazil, Japan, and India.
According to a recent study by Counterpoint, BYD almost caught up with Tesla’s global sales in the third quarter of 2023, with both accounting for 17% of the total global pure electric vehicle market. Tesla delivered a total of more than 435,000 cars, and BYD delivered 431,600, which is only 3,500 cars less than Tesla.
