BYD will launch a premium brand of electric cars with a strange name

The first representative of the new brand in early 2023 will be a large SUV.

Chinese electric car manufacturer BYD has announced the launch of a new premium brand in the first quarter of 2023. The brand will be called ‘仰望’ (Yangwang), and its first model will be an SUV. Translated into English, Yangwang means ‘to look up’.

In February 2021, BYD took the first step towards launching a new car brand by changing the company’s organizational structure.

‘According to several current production plans, the price range of the high-end brand is expected to be between 800,000 yuan and 1.5 million yuan ($110,280 – $206,763),’ BYD said. The business of the Chinese passenger car manufacturer consists of Dynasty Series, Ocean Series, Denza and this premium brand. With the exception of Denza, a joint venture between BYD and Mercedes-Benz, the other sub-brands are wholly owned by BYD.

The company was registered as Shenzhen Yangwang Automobile Sales Co. Ltd. November 7 and is wholly owned by BYD.
