They mixed up the letters: Russian tourists ended up in Turkish Mardin instead of Madrid (photo)

Customers encountered an error during a transfer in Istanbul. Vacationers flew to the Turkish city, which is 20 kilometers from the border with Syria.

The Russian travel agency made a mistake and sent clients to the Turkish city of Mardin instead of Madrid. This was reported by the Turkish newspaper Yeni Akit. Customers realized they were going to Mardin, not Madrid, when connecting in Istanbul. Managers responsible for booking tickets mixed up the names of the cities.

Tourism entrepreneur Bekir Falay said that the Turkish side, despite the confusion, well received the Russians, who spent the whole day in Mardin.

Mardin is located in the south of Turkey

‘There was a request from Russia about a trip to Madrid. The agency issued a ticket to Mardin via Istanbul instead of Madrid. Travelers faced an unexpected surprise and were very surprised,’ he noted.

What is the city of Mardin famous for?

Mardin is located in the south of Turkey, about 20 kilometers from the border with Syria. Most of the locals can see the Syrian valley. About 140 thousand people live in the city – Kurds, Turks, and Syrians.

Mardin is surrounded on two sides by the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. Mardin was included in the UNESCO heritage list for its undeniable historical and cultural value, it is the second site in the world after Venice that has preserved its original appearance.

Mardin is famous for numerous architectural monuments – ancient ruins, Muslim mosques and Christian monasteries.

The city has a small airport, it does not accept international flights. You can fly to Mardin from Istanbul, there are no direct flights from Antalya.

We will remind that the Russians want to take children on an excursion to the ruined Ukrainian Mariupol on the boat ‘Snake Horynich’. This project wants to return Russians to the ‘roots and the single basis of civilization’.
