CATL presents a battery that charges in 10 minutes

Battery giant CATL has unveiled new batteries called Shenxing, promising a 400 km range after 10 minutes of charging. A fully charged battery provides a range of up to 700 km.

According to CATL’s official statement, the concern is preparing to start producing Shenxing batteries at its Chinese facilities in the near future. The presentation of the innovative battery is scheduled for the first half of 2024. Around the same time, these batteries will be assembled in Hungary and Germany, the developer’s representatives said at the IAA Mobility 2023 forum.

The new batteries will be shipped to electric car manufacturers in 2014. The names of the customer companies are not specified.

According to CATL engineer Gao Pengfei, ShenXing batteries offer higher density at a lower cost compared to the cylindrical nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) batteries currently in use.

Along with ShenXing, the battery giant produces Qilin batteries, which are seen in Zeekr e-cars brought to Europe. The option of using Qilin batteries in aviation is also being considered.
