Challenger 2 as a sniper gun: the Armed Forces of Ukraine compared the British vehicle to the Soviet T-80 (video)

The Ukrainian Defense Forces currently have 14 British Challenger 2 tanks in service, and the driver of one of these vehicles spoke about its effectiveness on the battlefield

The press service of the Ukrainian Airborne Assault Forces posted a video on its social media in which a soldier described his impressions of one of the western main battle tanks in service with the Ukrainian army, the British Challenger 2.

“This tank is the sniper rifle of all tanks,” said a mechanic-driver of one of the tank units of the Ukrainian Airborne Forces. The military emphasizes the range and accuracy of the British tank, noting that the main targets for this machine should be enemy vehicles.

The driver says he has operated tanks such as the T-64, T-72, and T-80, and in his opinion, the Challenger 2 is much better than these vehicles, and the military man pays special attention to the fact that the British vehicle is much safer for the crew.

“I’ve driven a T-64, a T-72, and a T-80, and I fought in a T-72, and it takes up to one attempt to hit you, and that’s it, there’s not much chance, the BC goes off and you go flying. On this tank [Challenger 2], the BC is located in such a way that it can withstand several hits, and even if it does, it is not a given that it will hit the BC and detonate,” the soldier says.

The driver also notes the reliability of the British tank compared to Soviet tanks: “When you’re driving a T-80 and you don’t know if you’re going to fire a single shot because the MZ [loading mechanism] is jammed or a sensor is not working.”

Finally, the military concludes that in order to strengthen the capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, it would be nice to receive several more companies of such tanks – as of today, the UK has transferred 14 main battle tanks to Ukraine
