China and Russia conduct joint naval operation near Alaska
This week, Russia and China conducted a joint naval operation near Alaska, after which the US Navy sent four destroyers there
This was reported by Fox News.
For the naval operation, China and Russia used 11 ships that approached the southwestern coast of Alaska. U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan noted that the U.S. Navy eventually sent four destroyers and a P-8 Poseidon aircraft to keep Chinese and Russian ships away from U.S. waters.
They also note that Russian and Chinese ships have approached the Aleutian Islands. They did not enter US territorial waters.
Sullivan said it was unprecedented in terms of the size and scope of this joint naval operation between China and Russia. He noted that this is a cause for concern.
“This only reinforces this idea that we have entered a new era of authoritarian aggression led by dictators in Beijing and Moscow who are becoming more and more aggressive,” the senator emphasized.
Brent Sadler, a senior fellow at the Heritage Foundation, called the move by China and Russia provocative.
“This is the first time in history. Given the context of the war in Ukraine and the tensions around Taiwan, this step is very provocative,” he said.
