China blocked the communique of the G20 summit on the condemnation of Russia’s war against Ukraine
The G20 communiqué is likely to include a broad, vague statement that this is 'not the time for war'
China blocked the communiqué of the G20 summit on the condemnation of Russian aggression: at a meeting behind closed doors, Chinese representatives supported Russia. This is reported by the Financial Times.
“There will be no agreement on wording condemning Russia’s war against Ukraine,” said a high-ranking German representative of the G20.
According to the FT, the most likely G20 communiqué will include a broad, non-specific statement that this is “not the time for war”. An alternative would be a joint application by 19 or 18 countries.
At the same time, informed sources say that the general final communique will contain a condemnation of nuclear escalation.
At the meetings of the ministers of finance, foreign affairs and climate of the “Group of twenty” this year, it was not possible to produce a joint communique.
