China launches the world’s first hypersatellite with artificial intelligence

China has launched the world’s first commercial satellite with artificial intelligence (AI) into Earth orbit, said the online resource owned by CGTN.

The Rongpiao satellite, developed by Guoxing Aerospace Technology, is designed to test the Synaesthesia Fusion AI algorithm in space. After the tests, the satellite will be used as a platform for future communication networks.

The Rongpiao (Xingshidai-18) satellite with an integrated sensing network was delivered into orbit by a Smart Dragon-3 (SD-3) rocket, for which this was the third flight. The rocket was launched into space on February 3 at 11:06 a.m. local time (06:06 a.m. Kyiv time) from an offshore platform in the waters near the city of Yangjiang in the southern province of Guangdong in China. Together with Rongpiao, the rocket delivered eight more satellites into orbit, including the Egyptian satellite NExSat-1.

Earlier this month, it became known that the Chinese company ExPace successfully tested a reusable rocket prototype at the test site, which flew for nine seconds into the air and then successfully landed back on the launch pad. The tests confirmed the company’s successful progress in developing reusable rockets powered by methane and liquid oxygen.
