The Chinese company Poly Technologies has demonstrated the Silent Hunter laser defense system at the Defence Services Asia (DSA) 2024 exhibition. It is installed on a military truck, Defence News reports.
This system is called an improved version of the 30-kilowatt Low Altitude Laser Assault System (LASS) and is available in both stationary and mobile versions.
What is known about Silent Hunter
The Silent Hunter is equipped with a fiber optic laser that operates with the help of electric power.
DSA demonstrated several variations with different capacities:
- The smallest one has a power of 10 kW and is capable of destroying targets at a distance of 200 to 2 thousand meters;
- The second, with a power of 20 kW, is capable of hitting targets at a distance of 200 to 3 thousand meters;
- The third, most powerful model is capable of hitting targets at a distance of 200-4,000 meters and has a power of 30 kW.
The Silent Hunter system is designed primarily to track and destroy drones flying at low altitudes at speeds of no more than 60 m/s.
The powerful laser can pierce up to five 2 mm plates from a distance of 800 meters, or one from a distance of 1,000 meters.
Poly Technologies has already announced the successful use of this system, including the first successful neutralization of a Houthi attack drone by the Saudi military.
So far, such systems are only in China and Saudi Arabia, and they work in conjunction with 3D TWA radars.
