Chinese groups create AI-generated anti-American memes – ISD study
The Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD) has found that Chinese groups are actively using artificial intelligence to create and spread anti-American memes, focused on the conflict between Israel and Palestine, according to Vice.
These memes are aimed at strengthening anti-American sentiment, especially in the context of US President Joe Biden’s support for Israel’s military operations in the Gaza Strip.
Memes depicting Biden as an “arms dealer” and “the only supporter of the war in the United States” were created using artificial intelligence tools. Experts note that the main purpose of these memes is not to deceive, but to illustrate key narratives that can influence public opinion. These actions also suggest an attempt to influence the 2024 US presidential election. Russia is pursuing the same goal, hoping that if Trump wins the 2024 US presidential election, he will “facilitate” Russia’s occupation of Ukraine.
Meta, having already faced similar disinformation campaigns, deleted more than 7,000 accounts that it believed were involved in these operations. However, despite these measures, experts warn that China and Russia continue to work actively in this direction.
