CNN shows satellite images of Russian ship Olenegorskiy Gornyak damaged by drone attack

Satellite images obtained by CNN show the Russian navy ship Olenegorskiy Gornyak tilting in the Russian port of Novorossiysk on Friday after an overnight drone attack severely damaged the vessel.

A Russian amphibious landing ship, whose satellite images were provided by Planet Labs PBC, an Earth-imaging company, had to be towed back to its base in the port of Novorossiysk after being attacked by Ukrainian naval drones.

Subsequently, a video of the attack was published from a camera installed on the marine drone itself.

Judging by satellite images, the ship was pulled to the berth and moored in the port of Novorossiysk.

Thus, the Olenegorsk Pitman became the target of the fifth drone attack in the last 2.5 months and the first ship to be reliably hit.

The fate of the “miner” is indicative in the context of the entire Russian-Ukrainian war. The ship, part of the Russian Northern Fleet, arrived in the Black Sea in February 2022 and was apparently supposed to take part in an amphibious operation near Odesa. A year and a half later, the ship was used to transport civilian cars through traffic jams on the Crimean bridge, as the threat of anti-ship missiles made this ship and the entire Russian naval grouping in the Black Sea unable to perform direct military functions (except for the launch of sea-based Kalibr missiles).
