Danger for residents of Mariupol: due to the actions of the occupiers, the radiation background in the city has exceeded the norm by 15 times
In Mariupol, the radiation level has been exceeded 15 times. The invaders are trying to reassure the population, but in fact they are covering up their next war crime.
This was reported by Petro Andriushchenko, an advisor to the mayor, on Telegram.
“In Mariupol, a 15.5-fold increased radiation background was recorded at Pishchany beach in the port area. The level was 4.04 μSv/g, while the safety level for humans is 0.26 μSv/g. That is 15 times higher than the safety level,” Andriushchenko says.
It is noted that local propagandists interpreted this increase as “safe” for the population and explained it by the “recent storm.”
However, as Andriushchenko emphasizes, both justifications are false.
“Indeed, there are so-called ‘black sands’ in the area of Pishchany beach that are ‘phoning in’. Indeed, the point level of radiation from these sands could be harmful in normal life only if you spend a lot of time here systematically,” explains the advisor to the mayor of Mariupol.
However, according to him, the real reason for the exposure of the “black sands” is not the storm, but the constant bombardment and shelling of the city against the backdrop of the Russian occupation.
“However, it’s not just Pishchany. If someone were to measure the radiation level at Azovstal today, as well as analyze the composition of the soil and dust carried by the wind through the city and rain into the sea, the picture would be truly apocalyptic,” emphasizes Andriushchenko.
He noted that this is why the occupiers are not taking measurements there now in order to hide the ecocide they have committed.
