Drivers on the edge: a new scheme on the roads – cops fine for fake violations

On some roads in different regions of Ukraine, police officers have begun conducting illegal raids on drivers, as motorists themselves have reported on various social media.

Thus, inspectors stop the vehicle and ask the driver to take a test to determine the presence or absence of alcohol in the exhaled air.

However, in the absence of any signs of alcohol intoxication: obvious breath odor, distorted speech, slurred movements, etc., the inspector insists on taking a breathalyzer.

Many drivers who have encountered this situation claim that police officers behave rudely and encourage drivers to conflict.

It is worth noting that according to the traffic rules, refusal to undergo a test is considered the same as driving under the influence of alcohol, so some drivers are fined UAH 17 thousand. Then it is very difficult to prove your innocence when you appeal the fine.

If you are a driver and have already found yourself in a similar situation, you should be as calm as possible and pass the dragster test to avoid getting a 17-tem fine. It is important to be aware of your rights, but also keep in mind that refusal to take the test can result in serious fines and restrictions on driving.

In Ukraine, a driver can have a maximum of 0.2 ppm in the bloodstream. This is an indicator of almost zero alcohol content in the body. If the analysis shows a result that is higher than the norm, you will have to pay a considerable fine.

It should be noted that two weeks ago, a police scam was exposed in Dnipropetrovs’k region, which was carried out by the police in Pavlohrad. At checkpoints, they offered drivers to take a test for alcohol intoxication. But they used a drager that was not on the balance sheet and always showed an excess of the norm. After that, the driver was offered to resolve the issue on the spot – in cash, so as not to draw up a protocol.

Since the spring of 2021, Ukraine has significantly increased the amount of fines for unscrupulous drivers. Driving under the influence of alcohol can result in losing your license or transportation.

If the police stop a driver drunk for the first time on the road, he or she will have to pay a fine of 17 thousand. UAH and be disqualified for one year.

If a driver violates the law for the second time, he or she will face a fine of 34 thousand UAH. UAH and deprivation of rights for three years.

At the same time, if a motorist is caught drunk twice within one year, he or she will have to say goodbye to their car, spend 15 days in jail, and pay a fine of UAH 51 thousand. UAH. And the offender will not be able to drive for ten years.

You should remember that driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs can lead to a traffic accident and the death of innocent people.
