“Dune 2 conquered the box office, grossing $660 million and becoming the top grosser in 2024

The film has long surpassed the first part in terms of global earnings and has become the biggest hit in Timothée Chalamet’s career.

Over the weekend, Dune: Part II” left the top five at the domestic box office for the first time, but earned $7 million, bringing the sequel to the sci-fi epic’s $11 million in foreign earnings to $660 million.

It should be reminded that in just 3 weeks of release, the second part surpassed its predecessor’s total global gross of $407.5 million, and in just 10 days, the national gross (however, the first part was released simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max, so ticket sales were somewhat suppressed by the online release). At the moment, the series has officially joined the billionaire franchise club, and Denis Villeneuve is already preparing to surpass these achievements: the director is working on the third part, which, as he noted earlier, should be the final one.

“Godzilla & Kong: The New Empire dominated the North American box office with $31.7 million, outpacing debutants Mackyman and Omen: Inception, despite a 60% drop in ticket sales. So far, Adam Wingard’s film, which unites two giant monsters to save the planet, has earned $361 million worldwide.

“Omen: The Beginning was primarily created for Hulu, but moved to theaters due to financial benefits. The film, directed by Arkasha Stevenson, cost $30 million to make, so it doesn’t have any extraordinary earning goals – its current box office is $17.4 million.

“Ghostbusters: The Frozen Empire” from Sony brought its global gross to $138 million in its third weekend of release, and given its $100 million budget, the film can hardly be called a success. The same cannot be said about Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s Kung Fu Panda 4: the animated film earned $410 million worldwide with a budget of $85 million.
