Duolingo cuts 10% of contractors and replaces them with artificial intelligence
Duolingo Inc., a well-known company in the field of language learning software development, has announced that it is laying off some of its contractors. This decision is related to the intensive use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) for content creation. According to the company’s representative, this became possible thanks to AI technologies that simplify some work processes.
The company’s CEO Luis von Ahn has previously noted that the use of generative AI allows for faster creation of new content, such as scripts for educational shows and voices in the app. Duolingo also launched Duolingo Max, a premium tier that offers feedback and dialogs in other languages generated by AI.
The company emphasizes that job cuts are not a direct replacement of humans with AI. Most employees and contractors use these technologies in their work.
