Ecuador to exchange Mi-17 helicopters for UH-60 Black Hawk from the United States to be transferred to Ukraine

The Armed Forces of Ukraine will receive Mi-17 helicopters from Ecuador.

The information was shared by Defense Express. This transfer will be implemented under the agreement between the United States and Ecuador, which was concluded in January 2024. The agreement provides for the transfer of Soviet weapons to Ukraine from the Ecuadorian army’s stockpile. In return, Ecuador will receive American-made equipment – UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters.

Unfortunately, it is not known how many Mi-17 helicopters will be transferred to the Ukrainian army. By the way, according to Infodefensa, most of Ecuador’s Mi-17 helicopters are in an unusable condition. Perhaps Ukraine wants to use them as donors.

The Mi-17 is a Soviet-made multi-purpose military transport helicopter. It is designed for landing, combat and special missions. It can also be used to destroy lightly armored vehicles, destroy enemy targets and manpower (using missile and small arms).
