Elon Musk has taken away the @x Twitter username from a San Francisco photographer

The administration offered a meeting with the company's management and souvenirs as compensation

Last week, the social network Twitter was renamed X. A few years ago, a user created the @x account, but recently Elon Musk took it away.

The @x account belonged to Gene Hwang, a photographer from San Francisco. He created his account in 2007 but recently discovered that the username no longer belonged to him. In an email, he was informed that @x was now the property of the company.

According to the photographer, he was ready to sell the custom name, but was not offered monetary compensation. Instead, the letter offered the opportunity to receive free souvenirs and meet with the company’s management.

Twitter’s rules state that an account can be deleted in case of trademark infringement. It is not yet clear which trademarks Musk owns. By the way, the San Francisco-based photographer now has a new name: @x12345678998765.

One-letter accounts appeared at the dawn of the social network and are now the most valuable. In particular, the user @n reported that he was offered $50,000 for an account.
