The European Union has extended economic sanctions against Russia, which were imposed in response to its aggression against Ukraine. The sanctions will remain in effect for at least another six months – until January 31, 2024. This is reported on the website of the EU Council.
European sanctions against Russia include restrictions in the areas of trade, finance, technology and dual-use goods, industry, transportation and luxury goods.
They also include a ban on the import and transportation of crude oil transported by sea and certain oil products from Russia to the EU, the disconnection of several Russian banks from SWIFT, and the cessation of pro-Kremlin media activities in the EU.
It is worth noting that sanctions are imposed both against specific individuals and against state-owned and private companies from Russia.
Since February 24, 2022, the EU has imposed 11 sets of sanctions in response to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
