Everyone will probably have to pay for using X (Twitter) – Elon Musk
During a conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, American billionaire Elon Musk said that the payment system is the only way to resist bots. Because of this, everyone may have to pay to use X (Twitter).
It is not yet known whether this was just a spontaneous comment or a signal of more firm intentions that Musk had not previously disclosed.
Currently, a paid subscription to X (Twitter) costs $8, but the price depends on the country where the user is located. According to Musk, he wants to come up with a lower subscription price if it is mandatory for everyone.
“This is a long discussion, but in my opinion, this is actually the only defense against huge armies of bots,” Elon Musk added.
As a reminder, on November 6, 2022, Twitter (now X) launched a subscription feature that will allow users to get a verification checkmark. It costs $7.99. Twitter Blue costs $11 per month. Its subscribers have priority in searches, mentions, and responses. Twitter says it uses the service as a source of revenue and to fight spam and bots. Initially, the subscription cost $8 for Android users and $11 for iOS smartphone owners, but on January 19, Twitter equalized the cost of Twitter Blue for everyone.
