Experts reveal features of X-47 Kinzhal combat unit

TSN correspondent Andriy Tsapliyenko spoke with experts from the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise (Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise), who study, among other things, downed missiles from the Nazis. In this interview, Oleksandr Ruvin, Director of the Institute, and Andrii Kulchytskyi, a researcher, shared some interesting details about the Kinzhal hypersonic missile shot down during the attack on Kyiv on May 4, 2023.

The results of the research have already shown, among other things, that a special octane explosive is used to equip the warhead of the Kinzhal missile, which is also used to equip only the warhead of the 9M723 ballistic missile for the Iskander air defense system.

The weight of the explosive in the warhead of the Kinzhal is 150 kg, the equivalent of 240 kg of TNT. It is interesting that the casing of the X-47M2 Kinzhal warhead is so thick, and that the warhead was knocked out “like a bottle” when the downed missile fell.

Another interesting detail is that all the found elements of the downed missile are marked “7760”, which corresponds to the index of the missile itself to the X-47M2 “Kinzhal” complex, which the Rashists themselves claim – 9-C-7760.

This at least allows us to prove the very fact that the Russians used the Kinzhal missile system, which can be identified by specific features and parameters, which is important for the legal process of war crimes of the Russian Federation against Ukraine. At the same time, KFI experts also say that it will be possible to identify the specific MiG-31K aircraft from which the missile was fired, the launch range and the place where it was shot down by our air defense.

At the same time, this interview also revealed some new details about how the Russians use their X-55 missiles to fire at Ukraine. To begin with, KFOR experts already have about 10 downed missiles of this type, and this already shows the frequency of firing such missiles from Russian VKS bombers. For example, the State Emergency Service often reports that its sappers have to dispose of downed X-55s found after regular missile attacks.

All of the X-55s found, shot down by our air defense, carried a mass and dimensional imitator of a nuclear warhead (for the delivery of which this type of missile was actually designed, unlike the “conventional” X-555). No traces of radiation were found, which also shows that “special warheads” were not mounted on such missiles.

Judging by the description “this missile hits the target but does not explode,” the racist X-55s fly to predefined coordinates. That is, their task is not only to “probe”, “distract” or deplete our air defense, but also to hit our critical infrastructure, probably due to the kinetic energy and/or toxic fuel that this type of missile is equipped with.
