“Express mode” of fare payment using iPhone and Apple Watch has been launched in Kyiv buses

Even with a low battery

The Kyiv City State Administration announced the introduction of secure payment for fares in Kyiv municipal buses via Apple Pay. As a result, users will be able to make payments by simply holding their iPhone or Apple Watch up to a reader located on the bus. Owners of compatible iPhones or Apple Watches will also be able to turn on the “Express Mode”, which will allow them to pay for the fare in one touch without having to unlock the device or wake it up from sleep mode. This feature is compatible with iPhone 8 and Watch Series 4 or later.

To enable this feature, users need to add a qualifying credit or debit card to Apple Wallet. Then you can turn on Express Mode by following these steps:

  • Open the Wallet app on your iPhone and select a card.
  • Click the More (…) button, and then click Card details.
  • Click “Express travel options”.
  • Select the desired credit or debit card.

It is noted that after enabling the “Express mode”, passengers will be able to use their iPhone to pay for public transportation for up to 5 hours, even if the device is discharged, thanks to the backup power.

It also emphasizes that the fare payment function is safe, secure, and private. Credit or debit card information added to Apple Wallet is not shared with Apple or stored on its servers. If an iPhone or Apple Watch is lost, the owner can immediately use the Find My app to lock the device and track its location.
