Failure of Putin’s plan, Ukrainian air defense shoots down 2023-made X-32 missile

Ukrainian air defense shoots down a Russian supersonic cruise missile X-32, which was produced in the 3rd quarter of 2023.

This was reported by the Telegram channel “Colonel GS”.

It is reported that the Russian X-32 was hit by an anti-aircraft missile.

The published photographs show the wreckage of the missile with holes from the warheads in the right wing console.

The X-32 is a deep modernization of the X-22 air-to-surface missile, which was developed in the late 1980s by the Raduga design bureau.

Due to the collapse of the USSR, work on its creation was frozen several times. The development of the missile was resumed in the mid-1990s and tested in 1998.

After that, another problem arose: there was not enough money to modernize the planned Tu-22M3 carrier aircraft. The test was continued only in 2008, when a Tu-22M3 was converted for the test.

Flight tests of the missile-carrying aircraft took place in late July 2013. Several flights were conducted, including at least one with missile launches.

At the end of 2016, the X-32 missile was officially adopted and 30 Tu-22M3 aircraft were scheduled to be upgraded to Tu-22M3M.

The missile has an identical body to the X-22, but a more powerful engine was installed on the missile, and the fuel tanks were enlarged by reducing the warhead.

In addition, the deeply modernized missile received a new interference-proof radar-inertial guidance system with radio command correction and terrain reference.

The flight speed of the X-32 is 3.5-4.6 Mach, and the range of flight due to the increased tanks is 600-1000 kilometers.
