Finland will build a wall on the border with Russia for 140 million euros – Reuters

Finland will build a wall on the border with Russia for almost 140 million euros. Reuters writes about it.

The length of the Finnish-Russian border is 1,300 km, but the country’s border service management plans to build 130-260 km of fence, which will cover 10-20% of the total length. The focus will be primarily on the border crossing points and the surrounding areas in the south-east of Finland.

The agency recalled that the purpose of these barriers is to strengthen preparedness for hybrid threats, such as a potential mass influx of asylum seekers. The draft law was contested from the point of view of the asylum rules of the European Union, but it was adopted in July by a supermajority.

Earlier it was reported that Poland will build a temporary wall on the border with Russia. This decision was made after an increase in the number of flights from the Middle East and North Africa to Kaliningrad.
