The pilots of a Russian Ka-52 reconnaissance and combat helicopter filmed the moment when another similar occupant helicopter was shot down by a Ukrainian MANPADS missile.
The crew of the downed helicopter ejected. Russian social media reported that the pilots had allegedly survived and returned to combat missions.
The video was published by Russian telegram channels.
The Ka-52 is Russia’s most advanced helicopter and was introduced in 2021. The vehicle is capable of engaging armored and unarmored vehicles, infantry and air targets on the battlefield. It is the world’s only production helicopter with an ejection system.
Unlike previous models of this type of helicopter, the modification received a modernized electro-optical reconnaissance and guidance station GOES-451M, and an onboard communication system BCS-50M. The vehicle was equipped with the SUO-806PM weapon control system with the ability to use new types of weapons, including a guided missile.
The Ka-52 is equipped with a 30-mm 2A42 cannon with 460 rounds of ammunition, a Vihr anti-tank missile system with a laser beam guidance system, and 80-mm caliber blocks. The helicopter can additionally carry R-73 and Igla-V guided air-to-air short-range missiles, as well as unguided air-to-ground missiles.
The helicopter is equipped with modernized L418-2 anti-aircraft missile detection and identification and L418-5 jamming systems.
