From the developers of the Patriot: compact Gambit rocket engine will increase the range of targets threefold

RTX (formerly Raytheon Technologies) is developing a rotary detonation engine demonstrator for missiles and future weapons systems. It has signed a contract with DARPA to design a mass-produced Gambit research engine. It will allow to increase the range of missile weapons to hit targets threefold.

The new rocket engine will be more compact. It will provide an advantage to American air-to-air guided missiles in air battles.

Gambit is the first program on the planet aimed at creating a new engine for future weapons systems. Thanks to a contract with DARPA, RTX became the first defense manufacturer on the market to use a rotating detonation engine in a real test system.

RTX engineers plan to use elements of iteration of performance models based on the data obtained during phased system tests when developing Gambit.
