During the Russian air attacks on August 19 and 30 in Zhytomyr region, the Gepard anti-aircraft artillery system successfully destroyed all enemy targets.

According to the head of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Serhiy Nayev, the military command is taking all possible measures to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense systems. During the Russian air attacks on August 19 and 30 in Zhytomyr region, the Gepard crew successfully destroyed all targets that fell within its range.

“It should be understood that these are only five enemy ‘shaheds’, but they could have caused very great damage to both civilians and critical infrastructure,” he explained.

During the meeting with the crew of the anti-aircraft artillery unit, Nayev expressed his gratitude to the soldiers for their work.

“We are doing everything to increase the effectiveness of the air defense system. In particular, we are creating new mobile firing groups that will operate in certain threatening areas,” the Joint Forces Commander added.

What is known about the Gepard air defense system

The Gepard is a German anti-aircraft self-propelled artillery system manufactured by Krauss-Maffei since the mid-1970s. The unit is equipped with two 35-mm automatic cannons mounted on the base of the Leopard 1 tank and can fire at a distance of up to 4 km and at an altitude of up to 3 km.

This equipment was developed in the 1960s, but now it is used by Ukrainian troops at the front to protect the sky.
