German Bayer invests 60 million euros in Ukraine: what is known

According to the German Minister of Economy, the German government will support firms that agree to invest in the Ukrainian economy.

German companies that are not afraid to invest in Ukraine during the war will have guarantees from the German government. This was stated in an interview with ZDF TV channel by German Minister of Economy Robert Habeck.

Investment guarantees will be applied in case of destruction, for example, after missile strikes, of the production facilities of German companies in Ukraine.

“Usually, we don’t do this, but in this case we will,” the German official said.

According to preliminary data, the pharmaceutical and agrochemical concern Bayer AG is ready to invest about 60 million euros in Ukraine. According to the head of one of the company’s departments, Matthias Berninger, the company is investing in seed production.

“This is a very, very large investment that gives hope in two ways. On the one hand, for many farmers who are waiting for quality seeds, and on the other hand, for the government,” he said.

At the same time, the German Minister of Economy added that in addition to the pharmaceutical giant Bayer, the construction company Fixit, which produces building materials, plans to almost double its capacity in Ukraine. According to Robert Habeck, Germany sees Ukraine as an alternative to the Russian market, which has been lost to German companies.

“We invested a lot in Russia, and the market was lost. Now we can look for other markets – why not Ukraine?” added Robert Habeck.

As a reminder, on April 3, 2023, Robert Habeck arrived in Ukraine on an unannounced visit. This is his first visit to the country since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Armed Forces. The German Ministry of Energy and Economic Affairs said that the purpose of Robert Habeck’s visit was to “give Ukraine hope” for post-war recovery.
