Germany will transfer the Bergepanzer 2 armored car support to Ukraine
Three Bergepanzer 2 armored repair and evacuation vehicles are among the equipment transferred by Germany to Ukraine.
The German armored repair and evacuation BPz-2 is a combat support vehicle. It is intended for the repair of other armored vehicles, in particular Leopard tanks, in field conditions. The machine is based on Leopard 1.
BPz-2 can be used to restore battle-damaged vehicles, install and remove engines and turrets, i.e. it is a mobile workshop.
The crew consists of four soldiers: a driver, a commander, a machine gunner and a radio operator. In order to manage it, the Ukrainian military must undergo training in Germany.
The ‘Bergepanzer2’ hull consists of welded armor steel and has a single layer of armor. The level of protection is similar to Leopard 1.
The armament of the ‘BPz-2’ is primarily intended for self-defense of the crew and consists of a machine gun and smoke cannons.
The support vehicle has a crane, support equipment, and repair equipment. As part of field repairs, a spare engine can be placed aft.
