Google, Apple, Microsoft are gradually moving production out of China

The world’s largest technology companies are moving the production of their gadgets from China to neighboring Vietnam and other countries. The New York Times tells about it in a large article.

According to the publication’s sources, the production of Google Pixel smartphones will partially move to Vietnam from the Foxconn factories in southern China. The production of the latest model of the seventh generation will begin here. In general, the company is going to produce here up to a quarter of the premium Pixel 7 and at least half of all Pixel 8 and 8 Pro. Pixel 4a, 5a and 6a smartphones are also produced here.

Increased tariffs, growing geopolitical tensions with the country’s relations with India and Taiwan, as well as strict anti-coronavirus restrictions and periodic factory shutdowns forced Google to look for alternatives to China.

A small part of the flagship iPhone 14 will also be manufactured in India this year. In the future, Apple wants to bring part of the production of all iPhones here for an experiment, in order to evaluate the possibility of assembling them here in the future.

In addition, tablets and an Apple smartwatch are already being produced in Vietnam. The plants of 20 of the 200 largest suppliers of the Cupertino company are located here.

Microsoft’s Xbox game console assembly is also concentrated in Vietnam, and Amazon’s Fire TVs are assembled in India. A few years ago, these devices were made in China.
