Google introduces new AI features for travelers in Google Maps and search

Google has introduced several updates designed to help users plan their trips: new translation capabilities, artificial intelligence route mapping, and curated recommendations in Google Maps.

This week, Google Maps will start suggesting users where to eat and what places to visit. Initially, this feature will be available only in some cities in the US and Canada. The recommendations are updated weekly from a variety of sources, including Lonely Planet, The New York Times, and OpenTable, and are divided into three lists: “Rising Stars,” “Best of All Time,” and “Diamonds,” which are not particularly popular places that deserve attention.

In addition, the search is testing a new generative artificial intelligence feature that offers users travel ideas. The AI-generated route includes additional information, such as flight and hotel options, as well as suggestions to visit certain places.

According to Google, over time, AI will offer information about establishments, reviews, and photos – and the resulting route can be sent to other Google services such as Gmail, Docs, or Maps. For now, this feature is only available to participants of the Search Generative Experience (SGE) testing program.

The Circle to Search feature, which was introduced in January, has also been updated and the company ridiculed the iPhone for its absence. Now you can use it to translate information from any part of the screen by holding down the Home button or the navigation bar and then clicking the translation icon. Until recently, Circle to Search was only available on the Google Pixel 7 Plus and Samsung Galaxy S24, but it will soon be available on other Android devices.
