Introduction of new series of license plates approved

Private companies are officially allowed to produce license plates. These license plates will have a new series of letters.

The alphanumeric combinations for these license plates will continue to be assigned by the service centers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as reported by the press service of the Main Service Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The license plates themselves will be produced by third-party companies. This was reported by AutoConsulting.

We would like to remind you that the regulations that allow entrepreneurs or companies to produce license plates for vehicles have recently been finalized. It is important to understand that these are not duplicates, but completely new license plates.

This means that car owners will have a choice. They can either follow the traditional method of obtaining license plates at the MIA service center or order a “digital” license plate there and purchase physical plates from a business entity authorized to provide such services.

The new series of autonomous license plates were approved by Order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine No. 53 of January 30, 2024, and have not yet been seen on cars. This will make the process of assigning a combination of letters and numbers more transparent and reduce the risk of interference by officials.

There is a special procedure for obtaining such a permit, the details of which can be found on the website of the Main Service Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

After obtaining the permit, these entities will be able to issue license plates that comply with state standards, but with separate series, such as OA, OV, OS, OE, ON, OI, OK, OM, UB, UC, AG, AJ, DB, and NA.

Therefore, when this mechanism is launched, detecting a car with a similar designation on the license plate will mean that these are official license plates, not imported “Euro cars” (since they contain characters from the Latin alphabet). They are simply made to order outside the Central Service Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
