Google search loses pages: it becomes endless, like on a smartphone

Google users on the computer will soon have to get used to the mobile style of this search engine. The service introduced an endless search, removing the division into pages. The feature is currently being tested for English-speaking users in the US.

Google is rolling out continuous scrolling on desktop about a year after launching the feature on mobile.

Continuous scrolling eliminates the need to click Next or click page numbers at the bottom of search results. On the other hand, with such an endless feed, it is more difficult to return to some link.

Google will automatically load the next group of results on the page when the user scrolls to the end of the current list. Google currently works in a similar way on a mobile device.

The tech giant confirmed the rollout of the new style to Search Engine Land and told the publication that the search engine will automatically show up to six pages of results before you need to click the “More Results” button to download subsequent packages.

The company explains that changing the visual style of displaying search results on desktop computers will make Google search more consistent across devices and platforms.

“So starting today, we’re rolling out continuous scrolling on desktop so you can continue to see more useful search results with fewer clicks. Now it’s even easier to get inspired, with more information at your fingertips,” said a representative of the search giant.

Like the mobile version of the feature, it will initially be available for English language requests in the US. In the future, most likely, it will appear in more people and in other countries.
