Google will have to pay more than $1 million to an employee who accused the company of gender discrimination
Google lost the case and is now obliged to pay its employee $1.15 million.
What is known
Google Cloud CTO Ulku Rowe accused the company of gender discrimination. She stated that in 2017, she was hired for a lower and lesser-paid position, while men with less experience were hired for similar positions. In addition, she was not promoted in favor of a less qualified male colleague, while Rowe had more than 23 years of professional experience.
This happened almost 5 years after a major strike by Google employees who demanded a change in the company’s approach to sexual harassment and discrimination. Rowe’s lawsuit is the first such case that Google has faced since the protests.
As a result, the court decided that Google had indeed committed gender discrimination, and the company is now obliged to pay the accuser $1.15 million.
