HIMARS and MLRS can now destroy targets within a radius of 500 km

Lockheed Martin begins deliveries of new PrSM missiles to replace ATACMS

he US Army has begun receiving Precision Strike Missiles (PrSM). This is a new long-range weapon for the M142 HIMARS highly mobile artillery missile systems and the M270 MLRS multiple launch rocket systems.

Lockheed Martin announced the delivery of the first batch of PrSM on its official website on December 11, 2023. The transfer of the PrSM to the US Army followed successful qualification tests of the weapon in November 2013.

The current version of the PrSM is capable of hitting targets within a radius of 500 km. In the future, the range may reach 1,000 km and even exceed this milestone. The new weapon is a replacement for the ATACMS tactical ballistic missiles, which have a range of up to 300 km.

Early operational readiness was achieved through the delivery of PrSM Increment 1 missiles. Lockheed Martin is now considering the possibility of creating Increment 2 with a multi-mode homing system, and Increment 3 will increase the weight of the warhead without compromising the range. The range of 1000 km will be achieved as part of Increment 4.
