Honda has shown the e-MTB Concept – its first mountain electric bike
Honda followed the lead of many other major automakers and introduced its first electric bike, the Honda e-MTB Concept. The device was shown at the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo.
Although it is only a concept, the device looks like a bicycle that can be put into production in its current form. The Honda e-MTB Concept uses a Brose carriage motor. By utilizing existing components from companies that have been producing them for decades, Honda was able to (without reinventing the wheel) focus more on the overall look and feel of the bike.
The bike also features a SRAM Eagle AXS drivetrain, Shimano hydraulic disc brakes, Fox suspension front and rear, RockShox Reverb seatpost, DT Swiss XM 1700 wheels and Maxxis Minion DHF tires. Honda’s goal was to combine motorcycle and bicycle capabilities in one product capable of overcoming mountainous terrain.
“The Honda e-MTB Concept expands the possibilities of outdoor mobility. This bike climbs easily uphill with the help of an electric drive and offers a new riding experience that combines the fun of a motorcycle with the fun of a mountain bike. It is designed to allow everyone to freely enjoy riding on mountain trails,” the company says.
Unfortunately, information about the motor power, battery capacity, and battery life is not specified.
